EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL

“JOIN US! JOIN US! JOIN US!” These words have been echoing through the halls of AWP for the past few months as preparations for EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL are in full swing! The AWPlayers Professional Company members and AWP Raccoons (our resident tech team) have taken on this raucous, challenging and hilarious musical!

It’s been an interesting journey producing a show based on a cult classic feature film. A fascinating task finding moments to honor the original, like classic lines such as “Groovy” or “Good, Bad, I’m the guy with the gun.” while also discovering new moments that are completely unique to the individual actor as well as to our ensemble as a whole. Balance is key with this show!

EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL is a large step outside of the shows AWP produces, while usually family friendly...this one is NOT! So if you were thinking “Hmm Evil Dead The Musical, the kids would love that!” Reconsider, and leave them at home with the sitter while you take a date out to see deadites sing songs at you while Ash waves his boomstick around. You won’t regret it!

This show is a fun combination of classic horror films and musical theatre! It takes the iconic moments from EVIL DEAD, EVIL DEAD 2 and ARMY OF DARKNESS and heightens the stereotypes, the horror, the blood, the comedy and delivers the tropes we as viewers have grown to love. Like...who trips in the woods, can’t get up and suddenly has no shirt on? How on earth does that work? Or maybe don’t read some creepy ancient text from a book you found in a cellar covered in human flesh? Just a thought. The musical aspect plays on the memorable styles of Broadway while hitting you with sick harmonies!

One of the most sidesplitting parts of this show has to be the blood splash zone. Yes, you read that correctly, the front two rows of the audience are considered BLOOD SPLASH ZONES! Grab your ponchos, wear clothes you don’t mind being splattered with blood, snag a drink and be entertained!

But like...what’s the show about other than blood and gore and stupid decisions?

Here’s a blurb to give you the lowdown:

Five college students go to an abandoned cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them all into demons. It’s all up to Ash (a housewares employee turned demon-killing hero) and his chainsaw to save the day. Blood flies. Limbs are dismembered. Demons tell bad jokes...and all to music. With this combination of blood, jokes, cheesy effects and awesome musical numbers, EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL is unlike any show you’ve ever seen.
