(Drew Findling, an AWP parent, discusses his recent experience after seeing Masquerade performed at a local elementary school)
To All AWP Parents, Alumni and Friends,
Recently I had the pleasure of seeing The Atlanta Workshop Players' tour show performance of "Masquerade" at a local elementary school. I must admit, the one hour had a profound effect on me. Until that performance, I thought AWP was simply a place on Holcomb Bridge Road where my daughter learned acting skills. "Masquerade" taught me, as it did the elementary school audience, that AWP not only trains actors, but creates young ambassadors of good will. This show displays the harshness of bullying and the benefit of seeking a peaceful resolution to conflict. Scanning the audience throughout the hour I could sense the extreme impact AWP's young performers were having by exploring a topic that is likely present in their lives and often difficult to tackle in a safe and engaging way. I believe this experience offered the solutions to this young audience and opened the door for them to talk about their own experiences with bullying. I saw, in action, AWP's motto "
Kids Changing the World One Audience at a Time."
As a parent and as a concerned member of our Atlanta and suburban Atlanta community, I am vested in seeing AWP expand such community out reach projects. What a wonderful opportunity there is for the AWP family, including all of our children, to be able to impact more and more young people. In speaking with Lynn, that goal is possible, but AWP is a non-profit 501( c ) (3 ) organization, and will simply need more money. I am aware these are tough times for many of us, but I am hoping that over the next few weeks, each of you will think about making a tax deductible donation to The Atlanta Workshop Players. By doing so we will accomplish two goals: Firstly, create more acting opportunities for our children and secondly, help make AWP's trained actors available to the community and make it a better place for all of us to live.
Very truly yours,
Drew Findling, Esq
